Okay, I will try that.  I think there is some way of doing it directly from the computer though, since there is a help page specificaly for this error message for other routers.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/ds/results.jsp?error_code=003-1099&system=3DS&locale=lang

Is it a 3DS that you are having problems with, as Nintendo's Error Code Lookup only can find the 003-1099 error code for the 3DS?

If it is the 3DS, then the above url (and copy&pasted below) provides some information that might help.

But if still no luck (or it's a DS/Lite), perhaps you might want to give a call to Nintendo's 1-800-255-3700 (6 am ~ 7 pm Pacific, everyday) Customer Service number, and one of the service representatives can do some over the phone troubleshooting to determine exactly what the problem(s) might be, and then talk you through any needed steps to correct this.

Error Code: 003-1099

The Nintendo 3DS system was unable to locate the router or access point. This may be because the settings have been changed recently, or may be due to an incompatible wireless router or hotspot location.

Note about Nintendo Zone Viewer: If this error code comes up when using the Nintendo Zone Viewer application, it means that there is not a Nintendo 3DS Hotspot in range. The Nintendo Zone Viewer application can only connect online from a Nintendo 3DS Hotspot.Click here for the Nintendo 3DS Hotspot locator. (Nintendo Zone is currently only available in the US and Canada.)

Where are you trying to connect from?

  1. Wireless Home Router (please scroll down)
  2. Hotspot (click here)

Using a router:

  • Check for wireless interference, which can affect the signal strength to the Nintendo 3DS. To help minimize wireless interference, try the following:

    • Make sure that the Nintendo 3DS is within 30 feet of the wireless access point and facing in its general direction.
    • Make sure that any other interfering devices, such as microwaves and cordless phones, are turned off.

  •

  • Don't know how to find your router's security key?

Let us help! Select the brand of your router below and we'll show you how to access your router's settings.

    Linksys      Netgear      DLink
    Belkin      Apple      2Wire

Once you have entered the correct WEP or WPA key into your system, try the connection test again. If the problem persists, keep reading this page.

    Additional information:

    • Using an Actiontec or 2Wire router? The default security key is often found on a sticker located on the router.
    • Security keys are case-sensitive.
    • WEP keys contain numbers 0 through 9, and only letters A through F.
  •

  • Manually assign an IP address to your Nintendo 3DS.

Assigning an IP address to your Nintendo 3DS is easy!

    1. From the Nintendo 3DS settings, select "Internet Settings," then "Connection Settings" and choose the connection file you currently use.
    2. Choose "Change Settings."
    3. Click the right arrow and select "IP Address," then choose "No" under "Auto-Obtain IP Address."
    4. Select "Detailed Setup," tap into IP Address field, and type in the IP address below for your router brand. Skip down to step 5.
    5. IP addresses to enter by router brand:

    • Linksys - enter: 192.168.001.140
    • Netgear - enter: 192.168.001.250
    • Belkin - enter: 192.168.002.090
    • D-Link - enter: 192.168.000.190
    • Apple - enter: 010.000.001.250
    • 2Wire - enter: 192.168.001.250
    • Actiontec - enter: 192.168.001.250
    • SMC Networks - enter: 192.168.002.190
    • Don't see your router brand listed? Click here for help with finding an IP address to enter.

  • Next, for the Subnet Mask, enter 255.255.255.000 and select "OK."
  • Select the "Gateway" button. You will need to enter the default gateway address for your router brand. Look at the brand of your router, and enter the gateway address listed below into the field.
    • Linksys - enter: 192.168.001.001
    • Netgear - enter: 192.168.001.001
    • Belkin - enter: 192.168.002.001
    • D-Link - enter: 192.168.000.001
    • Apple - enter: 010.000.001.253
    • 2Wire - enter: 192.168.001.254
    • Actiontec - enter: 192.168.001.001
    • SMC Networks - enter: 192.168.002.001
    • Don't see your router brand listed? Click here for help with finding a gateway address to enter.

  • You'll be asked if you want to perform a DNS setup. Select "Set Up."
  • Select "Detailed Setup," then "Primary DNS" and enter: 008.008.008.008
  • Select "Secondary DNS" and enter: 008.008.004.004

Please note: These are public DNS's provided by Google and are subject to Google's Terms of Service. If you prefer to not use this service, doing an Internet search for "public DNS" will provide you with several other options you can use.

  • Save your settings, then select "Test" to begin a connection test.
  • If the test was successful, then your Nintendo 3DS is now connected online. If you received another error code, please call 1-800-895-1672 so that we may assist you further.

  • Still stuck? We can help! We have an easy-to-follow guide that will walk you through the process of creating a new connection file and starting from scratch. Even if you're sure you've entered the correct security key, we suggest following our guide to create a new connection file and start over. If at the end you still need help, you'll find contact information to reach our specially-trained representatives.

#Connecting from a Hotspot:

  • Check for wireless interference, which can affect the signal strength to the Nintendo 3DS. To help minimize wireless interference, try the following:

    • Ensure the Hotspot location does not require an internet browser to setup an account, accept a use agreement, or enter a password before accessing their Wi-Fi service. If the location requires any of these items, you will not be able to connect to the Internet with your Nintendo 3DS.
    • Make sure that the Nintendo 3DS is within 30 feet of the wireless access point and facing in its general direction. Signal strength can vary, depending on where the access point's signal is coming from. (Please do not sit or stand in places that will interfere with the location's customers or staff.)
    • Orientate the Nintendo 3DS so that your body or other objects (such as walls, plants, furniture, and other people) are not blocking the signal. Also, make sure there is no interference from wireless phones (cell phones are okay).

  •

  • If the connection continues to fail, this Hotspot may have their router set up in a manner that is not compatible with the Nintendo 3DS.

Cannot battle online in DQMJ2

Sigh...
Wireless interactions using my DS Lite have always been shaky (read: have never gone online)

So, every now and again, I get sucked back into playing a game I had deemed "finished." I always realize that many of the games I play are fun because of their multiplayer potential. Be it pokemon, or, right now "Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2" (It's a mouthful). I always go on to the "connect to WiFi" and then it sends me to that weird settings place where you can specify your network and put in your WEP, etc.

My home is capable of WiFi (lol) and I even finally got a WEP passcode, however when I type the code in, it says "unable to connect to access point." (Error Code: 51100)

Is there anything I can do? I know I'm typing the WEP in correctly because I JUST MADE A NEW ONE. Does anyone here know what's wrong?

EXTREMELY UPSET ABOUT INTERNET CHANGES OF NOT SUPPORTING GAMES, SYSTEMS, ECT…

So is it me or am I just being over dramatic about being upset due to the Internet support change for the games, systems, and other Nintendo products? I mean some games need constant Internet support so that they can be played in there fullest capacity and I don't want to be held back from such. I mean one of the biggest franchise is Pokemon. It is always fun to have an online battle or to trade with people of other nations and areas in the world but now can't do that do to the change. Also what about those that are trying to play the older games still before getting the newer games? Then the Wii system is not being supported but the Wii U is. That is a little backward don't you think considering they are one in the same with a few differences. Then the hand held systems, what if you haven't upgraded your hand held systems now you have to suffer cause you didn't get the 3DS, but you have the DSi? I know I wouldn't buy my 5 year old a 3DS,but I will buy one of the older DS systems so you know if they break it and stuff like that. But come on people this change makes me not want to continue dealing with nintendo if they are going to take from the consumer, even playstation and xbox  still support older games, evens ones that nobody plays. SO get it together people in NINTENDO

What did you expect? The DS and Wii have been out for 10 and 8 years respectively.

Whenever a new system, support for the old system is dropped. It's not like Nintendo is the only one that does this either.

When EA brings out a new Madden game, the Madden game from just the YEAR PRIOR TO IT has its online support cut off almost immediately.

Playstation recently cut off all online servers for the game MAG (which was an online game only, so the game is completely worthless now), and that game came out in 2010.

The point is, online servers cost money, and when you have new systems that are getting all the games (they don't make DS/Wii games anymore), you can't afford to keep running old servers.

Connected to Internet, but wont go online on friend list (nor game).

Hi, I have this problem and it occured when I was in the middle of using my 3ds XL.
It was fine and everything was connected (did some pokemon trades sucessfully) but then when I exit the game to add someone's FC it wouldn't let me anymore because it states am not 'online'. Since then it wouldn't let me go online in my game even though the Interenet test connection was sucessful. I've retried and on/off the 3ds a couple of times but it's still not working.

Basically, It says I am connected to the internet, but it won't let me go online for some reason.

Could anyone help out with this? [Most likely not able to call nintendo]

Can't connect 3DS to internet.

Hello.

I have had this issue for a while now, but I can never seem to get my home WiFi to work on my 3DS XL. I have a WiFi hotspot on my phone that works fine, and other internet connections work, but my home connection never even comes up on my 3DS. It comes up on my laptop and phone. I'm unsure of what to do.

Thank you in advance.

Image Share and Tumblr not working

Tumblr is not working when I try to log into my account on Tumblr. It even says Tumblr is not working on the first Image Share page on my 3DS. Anyone know what is going on?

Re: Image Share and Tumblr not working

I don't know about Image Share, but I've never been able to get tumblr working on my 3DS. Whenever I try to log in, it just brings me back to the same page (or the sign up page, I don't remember too well.) I've always just assumed that something in the 3DS's browser, such as a flash component, java, etc. wasn't up to date, and as a result, wasn't able to use tumblr.

Usually popular sites like facebook, Google, and Yahoo! have mobile forms of their sites, but I'm not sure that tumblr does. If it does, it must not recognize the 3DS as a mobile device.

Actually on the Image Share web site within the 3DS browser, it has a message at the top that Tumblr is not working. I have used it in the past a few times successfully with Animal Crossing New Leaf.

Thanks for responding, I was not able to find much on this subject elsewhere.

Can't connect to the Internet in game.

So, when I first got this 3DSXL, it connected to the wifi perfectly without any trouble at all. But a month ago, it started to be weird. I could find the access point and the connection test would work but I couldn't connect to the Internet in games, like Pokemon Y. Also its on and off, like it doesn't work for a week and works for a day or vice versa. I get two error codes whenever I try to connect: 001-0105 and 001-0502. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm also new here and this is my first post so please forgive me if I broke some rule or something.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/ds/results.jsp?error_code=001-0502&system=3DS&locale=lang

No worries, you haven't broke any rules, and sorry that you didn't receive a faster response for your problems.

According to Nintendo's Error Code Lookup, the 001-0502 really only indicates a possible eShop maintenance issue, so really that shouldn't be the issue since this has unfortunately been going on for a month and the eShop and/or their Online servers haven't had problems for that long of a time.

So really the 001-0105 is more helpful at explaining what the problem is, as it mentions something like wireless interference being the cause, which it does sound like that when you can connect sometimes and then at other times, can't.

So perhaps try checking for other electronics like cordless phones and perhaps either making sure that they are powered off or moved to another room and see if one or more might be the cause of your 3DS connection issue(s).

But if still no luck, perhaps you might want to give a call to Nintendo's 1-800-255-3700 (6 am ~ 7 pm Pacific, everyday) Customer Service number, and one of the service representatives can do some over the phone troubleshooting to determine exactly what the problem(s) might be, and then talk you through any needed steps to correct this.
